CPAWSB Indigenous Support Program - Coach Intake Form (January 2024)

Welcome!

The CPA Western School of Business (CPAWSB), in partnership with the Aboriginal Financial Officers Association (AFOA) of Alberta, is providing learning support resources specifically for CPAWSB learners in CPA Preparatory Courses (PREP) or the CPA Professional Education Program (PEP) who have voluntarily self-identified as a member of an Indigenous population.

To support this Indigenous program initiative, CPAWSB is expanding our coaching support in an effort to encourage and support Indigenous learners pursuing a CPA educational pathway. Individuals who participate as coaches for our Indigenous program will play an important role in providing academic guidance to students during this program.

The coaching initiative for Indigenous learners is a paid opportunity at a rate of $75 per hour, and is open to individuals who identify as a member of an Indigenous population. Please review the following description of what the term Indigenous means in the context of this initiative:

"Indigenous peoples” is a collective name for the original peoples of North America and their descendants. The Canadian Constitution recognizes three distinct groups of Indigenous (Aboriginal) peoples: Indians (referred to as First Nations), Métis and Inuk (Inuit). Increasingly, and in keeping with international agreements, “Indigenous Peoples” is being used instead of “Aboriginal peoples.”

"The previous term "Aboriginal" People (now primarily replaced by the term Indigenous) refers to the indigenous inhabitants of Canada when describing in a general manner the Inuit, First Nations, and Métis people, without regard to their separate origins and identities. Following accepted practice and as a general rule, the term Inuit replaces the term Eskimo. As well, the term First Nation replaces the term Indian."

The Indigenous Program consists of fully indigenous cohorts with content specifically tailored to relate to indigenous learners. Learners will take one of the following CPA PEP or PREP offerings running from January 2024 to June 2024:

CPA PEP:
  • Core 1 (CO1)
  • Core 2 (CO2)
PREP:
  • Introductory Financial Accounting (IFA)
  • Introductory Management Accounting (IMA)
If you identify as a member of an Indigenous population in Canada as defined above, and are interested in learning more or participating in this Indigenous Program initiative, please complete the questions within the intake form below to indicate your availability and interest.

Those individuals who are selected as academic coaches will be compensated for their time in being part of the Indigenous program. Note at this time CPAWSB is looking for those individuals who identify themselves as First Nations, Métis or Inuk (Inuit) to qualify as academic coaches. More information about the Program will be made available to those individuals who are interested in being part of the Program.
